I. Job Summary | Major goals and objectives.

The Anchor/Reporter at Arizona’s Family CBS 5 & 3 TV are owned and operated by the Meredith Local Media Group. Anchor/Reporter is one of the chief journalists in the newsroom. He/she develops content, writes and edits scripts and presents the news in an engaging way as to attract the largest available audience to the station’s newscasts.  This position collaborates with producers to execute the station’s key newscast strategies daily.  He/she is an ambassador for the station’s community initiatives.

Work performed is for all media platforms and initiatives, including for example: on-air, web, digital and social media.

Accountabilities, Actions and Expected Measurable Results


Anchors newscasts.  Covers news stories.  Writes and edits news copy.


Works with Producers to create newscasts, teasers and promos.


Works with News Director, Managing Editor and Producers to plan and prepare for special event coverage.


Conducts interviews and makes personal appearances on behalf of the station. Works with promotion department in promoting the news product.


III. Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.


Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications or related field, or equivalent training and/or experience.


Six years’ experience as primary anchor and reporter for commercial/public television.

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Ability to blend words and video into interesting and informative television news stories.

Must be a skilled communicator with ability to connect with a diverse audience.

Ability to assimilate information quickly.  Ability to compile and summarize information into a clear, concise and understandable presentation.

Ability to conduct meaningful and interesting interviews.

Must do story research and have knowledge of script writing, news gathering and editing.

Be at ease with meeting the public.
