Broadcast Engineer, KNXV/KASW


KNXV, the Scripps ABC station in Phoenix, AZ, is hiring a Maintenance Engineer. The Maintenance Engineer maintains all studio and transmitter electronic equipment and installs new and used equipment. You’ll perform preventative maintenance and emergency repairs on all aspects of television equipment.



o    Maintain all studio and transmitter electronic equipment.

o    Install new and used equipment.

o    Maintain and repair ENG equipment, ENG vans, and SNG truck.

o    Maintain and repair news gathering equipment.

o    Perform preventative maintenance and emergency repairs on all aspects of television equipment.

o    Maintain the RF (Radio Frequency) side of Satellite Trucks and Microwave units.

o    Responsible for performing preventative maintenance and upgrades on television transmitters, satellite trucks, microwave units, RF units and test equipment.

o    Install video, audio, RF, and computer equipment.

o    Maintain and repair satellite dishes and related equipment.

o    Document and record equipment repairs and maintenance schedules.

o    Research part numbers and pricing, as well as parts ordering.

o    Assist in the design of any improvements to our operation.

o    Perform other duties as directed.



o    Must have minimum of an associate degree or related work experience.

o    2 years of college or technical school, majoring in an Electrical related field and/or RF is desired.

o    5 years of broadcast TV studio and transmitter maintenance experience is required. HD facility experience is also required.

o    Must have working knowledge of Analog and digital terminal and distribution equipment, master control and routing switchers, and VTR’s. Graphics devices such as Chyron, Vizrt, Final Cut Pro editing systems, television SSL audio consoles, ELC and Crispin automation systems.

o    Must have RF microwave, satellite, and high-power UHF transmitter experience, and extensive working knowledge with high-definition systems.

o    Computer literacy is essential and working knowledge of networks a plus.

o    CAD experience a plus.

o    Valid driver’s license and good driving record required. In addition, proof of insurance and liability coverage may be required

o    SBE Certification desired.



o    Have a working knowledge of video servers, newsroom computer systems and non-linear editors, broadcast cameras, switchers, routers, and miscellaneous studio and broadcast equipment. Have strong mechanical skills.

o    Ability to take direction and work well with others in a team environment.

o    Excellent communication skills.

o    Must have knowledge of FCC rules.

o    Must be able to often serve in a lead role where general guidance and training of less experienced support personnel is needed.

o    Must be able to take the lead in effectively applying new technology and skills in accomplishing tasks.

o    Ability to comprehend schematics, mechanical drawings, and technical manuals.

o    Must have skills in the use of test equipment and soldering.

o    Must have ability to prioritize tasks and work within deadlines.



o    Must be able to climb, bend, crawl under items at times, including computer flooring.

o    Must be able to sit at desk for long period of time.

o    Must be able to work from ladder and on roofs of buildings.

o    Must be able to work a flexible schedule including able to work multiple days, holidays, evenings, weekends, and possible overtime hours as needed.

o    Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds.
