As Traffic Reporter/Editor of KTAR-FM, you will play a critical role in delivering live, on-air traffic reports, gathering relevant information such as crashes, road construction and breaking traffic news to be reported by traffic reporters on shift. We’re looking for a highly motivated, organized, detail-oriented professional to stay engaged and alert of all traffic news updates, gather timely traffic information, execute traffic alerts and contribute to the digital content distribution of breaking traffic news. This position will also be a part of the KTAR newsroom. As news editor, you will write, report, conduct interviews and go live on news stories of the day.   This part-time position is an opportunity for a hungry broadcast professional with a desire to contribute to a winning team and lead a traffic department within the newsroom.





Daily Traffic Reporting [2p-3:15p, as needed fill-in from 3:30p-6:45p]

Provide on-air traffic reports weekdays from 2p-3:15p and as fill-in to afternoon-drive traffic reporter between 3:30-6:45p.
Utilize traffic cameras, official social media sources, monitoring of police scanners and internal Bonneville resources to deliver traffic news on air.
Gather and provide a running list of problems on Phoenix-area roads, freeways and situations affecting traffic for use KTAR Traffic Center staff.

News Editor [scheduled hours]

Contribute to news coverage that has traffic connections.
Become the KTAR Traffic expert and enterprise and execute potential stories.
Present news in a concise, conversational and accurate manner on-air
Update / rewrite story scripts for online publication
Effectively and appropriately use social media to present stories via all available media channels.


Consistently work hours required.  1:30p-7p Monday-Thursday. It is a part-time for 22 hours per week. Work more when required to meet deadlines, including weekends and holidays. Extra hours and holiday pay are compensated when worked.
Perform other desk duties as needed.
Work in compliance with Company policies and procedures.



A minimum of 2 years of traffic reporting experience and editor or producer experience preferred.
The ability to understand and utilize news feeds and social media.
Sound news judgement and ability to simplify press releases as well as government, and law enforcement information.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including conversational, yet professional news delivery.
Proficiency in editing audio using software like Audition or Newsboss Audio Editor.
Prefer knowledge in using news software Newsboss.
Multilingual skills preferred. Spanish language speaking and writing preferred.
Strong desire to work at Arizona’s largest and most respected award-winning news radio station.

Ability to maintain a schedule of 1:30p-7p Monday-Thursday and perform at a high level.
Receive, process, and maintain information through oral and/or written communication effectively.
Substantial physical movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
Ability to extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction with good eye and hand coordination.
Lift, move, and carry up to 20 pounds on occasion.
