As Traffic Supervisor of KTAR-FM, you will play a critical role in the operation of the KTAR News traffic division. The role includes scheduling traffic reporters as needed for live reports on 92.3FM, gathering relevant information such as crashes, road construction and breaking traffic news to be reported by traffic reporters on shift. The supervisor also becomes the primary fill-in and provides all live traffic reports during morning and afternoon drives in the absence of the regularly scheduled reporter, as well as delivers regularly scheduled traffic reports in early and mid-mornings Monday through Friday. We’re looking for a highly motivated, organized, detail-oriented professional to stay engaged and alert of all traffic news updates, gather timely traffic information, execute traffic alerts and contribute to the digital content distribution of breaking traffic news. This position will also be a part of the KTAR newsroom. As news editor, you will write, report, conduct interviews and go live on news stories of the day. This full time position is an opportunity for a hungry broadcast professional with a desire to contribute to a winning team and lead a traffic department within the newsroom.
Daily Traffic Reporting [5a-6a and 9a-12:15p]
Provide on-air traffic reports every six minutes weekday mornings from 5-6 a.m. and at various segments between 9a-12:15p.
Utilize traffic cameras, official social media sources, monitoring of police scanners and internal Bonneville resources to deliver traffic news on air.
Gather and provide a running list of problems on Phoenix-area roads, freeways and situations affecting traffic for use KTAR Traffic Center staff.
Flexibility in schedule to cover both morning drive and afternoon drive traffic reports as needed.
News Editor [scheduled hours]
Contribute to news coverage that has traffic connections.
Become the KTAR Traffic expert and enterprise and execute potential stories.
Serve as liaison with traffic officials with ADOT as well as other agencies.
Update / rewrite story scripts for online publication
Effectively and appropriately use social media to present stories via all available media channels.
Schedule, train and guide part-time traffic reporters.
Coordinate information among radio reporters, online colleagues, show producers and studio engineers.
Oversee, develop, and evaluate effective changes to the clock when breaking news hits.
Consistently work hours required. 4:30 a.m. – 12:30p on weekdays. It is full-time for 40 hours per week. Work more when required to meet deadlines, including weekends and holidays. Overtime pay and holiday pay are compensated when worked.
Ability to organize, be dependable, delegate and motivate other people.
Perform other desk duties as needed.
Work in compliance with Company policies and procedures.
WHO YOU ARE:
A minimum of 3 years of traffic reporting experience required. News editor or producer experience preferred.
The ability to understand and utilize news feeds and social media.
Sound news judgement and ability to simplify press releases as well as government, and law enforcement information.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including conversational, yet professional news delivery.
Proficiency in editing audio using software like Audition or Newsboss Audio Editor.
Prefer knowledge in using news software Newsboss.
Multilingual skills preferred. Spanish language speaking and writing preferred.
Strong desire to work at Arizona’s largest and most respected award-winning news radio station.

Receive, process, and maintain information through oral and/or written communication effectively.
Substantial physical movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
Ability to extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction with good eye and hand coordination.
Lift, move, and carry up to 20 pounds on occasion.
