FCC Won't Consider 39% Cap at July Meeting
Despite recent buzz that FCC Chairman Ajit Pai would be scheduling a vote at the July 12 public meeting on a proposal related to the FCC's review of the 39% ownership cap/UHF discount at the FCC's, such an item did not make the agenda.
Agencies Applaud Radio’s Data Initiatives
With marketers putting more pressure on their ad agencies to show the tangible results of media buys, the radio industry has responded during the past year or so by introducing new data-infused buying systems, attribution analytics and more studies that prove return on investment. Agencies are applauding the moves, saying radio’s embrace of data and analytics is fostering renewed interest in the medium, helping it remain competitive and giving radio a bigger chair at the buying table.
Nielsen, FreeWheel Expand OTT, On-Demand Measurement
Nielsen and Comcast’s FreeWheel said they will expand measurement of over-the-top and set-top box video-on-demand inventory. The effort is aimed at creating additional TV advertising inventory, using data to improve the targeting of viewers, making it more attractive to marketers.
NAB On Board For Radio Ownership Rule ‘Modernization’
The NAB late last Friday announced that it will “urge” the Commission to “modernize outdated radio ownership rules as part of its quadrennial media ownership review proceeding planned for later this year.” (Paywall)
NBA Team Signs With Skyview For New Technology
The Phoenix Suns are the first NBA franchise to partner with Skyview Networks for its SkyCap system at Talking Stick Resort Arena. At the start of the 2017-18 season, Skyview Networks’ SkyCap system was installed to capture all gameday partner activations and in-arena advertisements with high-definition video to auto-save clips in a searchable database.
