FCC Advises Stations To Get Public Files In Order

ConteThe Federal Communications Commission has announced the next broadcast license renewal process will begin June 1, 2019. While it’s just a little more than one year away for the states first in line, the Media Bureau is advising stations to make good use of the time since this renewal cycle will be like no other. That’s because as of March 1 all stations have been required to have online public files.

Meredith Bid For Sinclair Station Iced

Exactly one month ago, Meredith Corp. announced that intended to create its sixth duopoly by making an acquisition in the nation’s 21st largest TV market. This deal would pair Meredith’s CBS affiliate with a facility signed on by a local real estate developer and hotelier in 1959.

Baseball Is Very Very Good For Radio

Nielsen says radio listeners love baseball. Nielsen’s PPM ratings for April confirm a seasonal increase in listening to sports radio stations when the major league season gets underway. “Each year, the All Sports format’s audience share peaks in the fall when football kicks off and the World Series takes place, remains strong through the end of the NFL playoffs and then spikes again in the spring around opening day.”

Time is Running Out to Register Your C-band Earth Station with the FCC

Last month, the FCC established a docket on “Expanding Flexible Use of the 3.7 to 4.2 GHz Band.” Concurrently, the Commission also announced a 90-day filing window for existing C-band users (i.e., earth stations in operation as of April 19, 2018) that are not yet registered with the FCC to register their facilities. To encourage registration, the FCC is waiving the frequency coordination requirement but is not waiving the $435 filing fee during this 90-day window. The deadline for registration is July 18, 2018.
