Arizona’s Radio and TV stations once again give back for the holidays

With the Thanksgiving and December holidays around the corner, broadcasters around Arizona are using their airwaves for good and promoting different ways to give to those less fortunate. Here are a few of the ways our member stations are getting involved in their communities for the holidays:

Mac & Gaydos Caring for Kids Collection Drive | KTAR-FM

Benefitting Child Crisis Arizona and Arizona Helping Hands, the Caring for Kids Collection Drive will take place Friday, December 8, 2017 from 2-6 p.m.  There will be a live broadcast and collection at two Kohl’s locations (55th Avenue & Bell Road and Raintree and the 101).

Arizona’s Sports Station’s Annual Holiday Heroes | KMVP-FM

Arizona’s Sports Station’s Annual Holiday Heroes Broadcast and Golf Tournament will benefit The 100 Club of Arizona. It takes place at the GCU Golf Course on Wednesday, December 13th from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Good News Radio Broadcasting | Good News Radio Broadcasting

Good News Radio Broadcasting is hosting Family Festival in the Park with Tucson Parks Foundation on November 18. They will be collecting food for the Community Food Bank.

The Gift of Warmth | Great Circle Media

Every winter lives are lost in Northern Arizona due to extreme weather conditions. One warm item can save a life! Help Great Circle Media reach their goal of 4,000 warm items (new and gently used jackets and coats, blankets, sleeping bags and new socks) to provide warmth for those in need in Northern AZ this season.

Flying High Turkey Drive | Yavapai Broadcasting

Yavapai Broadcasting and Frys Food Stores locations in Northern Arizona will be working together to provide turkeys for those less fortunate this Thanksgiving. The turkey drive will take place on November 20 from noon to 6 p.m.

Burning Desire to Feed the Hungry | Yavapai Broadcasting

December 8th and 9th, Yavapai Broadcasting stations will host what might be Northern Arizona’s biggest food drive.  Their staff will broadcast from Safeway’s in Cottonwood, Prescott Valley, Prescott and Flagstaff.  All monetary or food donations will stay in the community where collected.

Operation Santa Claus | KTVK-TV

ABC15 is excited to kick off the 16th annual Operation Santa Claus on November 16. Operation Santa Claus is an Arizona tradition and partnership between ABC15 and Sanderson Ford to collect food, toys, clothes and monetary donations for Arizona charities. Anyone who donates to Operation Santa Claus will be entered to win a brand- new vehicle.

Positively Arizona Special Episodes | KASW – TV

CW6 will be airing two special editions of Positively Arizona: a Thanksgiving show themed around “Giving Thanks” and a Holiday show that will feature people and organizations giving back during the holidays. Positively Arizona is a locally produced show dedicated to finding and sharing positive and uplifting stories. The Thanksgiving show airing November 19 & 26 will highlight St. Mary’s Food Bank and volunteer opportunities. The Holiday Show airing Dec. 24 & 31 will feature a United Fantasy Flight holiday surprise for underprivileged kids and a tag along with Santa and Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

Million Can Crusade | KNIX-FM

The Million Can Crusade is entering its 10th year of raising cans for valley families in need across Phoenix. The idea is simple…  raise 1 million cans of food for  St. Vincent De Paul to feed families across the entire valley. The cans and money donated go straight to over St. Vincent de Paul’s community food pantries, and from there into food boxes delivered to hungry families.

Various Programs | Scripps Tucson

Through November, 104.1 KQTH is conducting a military family holiday assistance drive with Miller’s Surplus and PODS Containers.  Collecting most wanted gifts for military families.

From late October through December, 94.9 MIXfm, 106.3 The Groove and PODS Containers are collecting new and gently used clothing to stock The Salvation Army’s Thrift Stores in Tucson.

All stations  are participating in “Thanksgiving on the Mayflower”, Thursday, November 16.  They’re filling a Meridian Moving Systems Mayflower moving van  It’s a day-long food and cash drive to benefit the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona.  Tucson Electric Power matches the first $25K in donations.

106.3 The Groove’s ‘Pack The Wagon for Casa de los Ninos’.  A clothing drive for this local child advocacy group.  It begins on 11/24, ands 12/18 at Trail Dust Town in Tucson.

Scripps Tucson’s Black Friday Blood Drive with the American Red Cross, Friday, 11/24 from 6A-5P at the stations, 7280 E. Rosewood Street.

Scripps Tucson’s Stuff The Bus Day, Friday, December 1, at Walmart-El Con Center.  The toy collection drive will benefit The Salvation Army.

94.9 MIXfm’s annual MIX Miracles Radiothon benefiting Children’s Miracle Network and TMC for Children.  Thu & Fri, 12/7 & 8 at Tucson Medical Center.


For 17 years, KOLD News 13 and Wells Fargo have partnered to “Stuff The Stagecoach,” an initiative that raises food and money for the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona. On Thursday, December 7th KOLD News 13 will again be located at the southeast corner of Orange Grove & Oracle helping families and children in need this holiday season. Last year the KOLD “Stuff the Stagecoach” raised $14,000 in cash donations, 3,900 pounds of food which was enough for 63,000 meals.


KOLD News 13 and the Regional Transportation Authority will be holding the 2nd Annual “Fill the Streetcar” toy drive. New, unwrapped toys can be dropped off on Eighth Street, just west of Fourth Avenue. All toys will go to the Miracle on 31st Street, a local charity that distributes toys to children in disadvantaged neighborhoods.

Thanksgiving Turkey Drive |KMSB-TV

Now through November 21st Southern Arizona can join FOX 11 and Fry’s Food Stores and help make sure Arizona families in need have a turkey on their holiday table. By purchasing a $10 Turkey Scan Card, we can all make sure every family can enjoy a holiday meal this season.

Meals Matter Food Drive | KMSB-TV & KPHO-TV

Now through December 31st you can join FOX 11 and Fry’s Food Stores and help feed hungry families throughout  Arizona. While filling their grocery cart, shoppers can adding a donation of a non-perishable food item for our Meals Matter Food Drive. Or purchase a $1 or $5 scan card at the register.

Christmas Angel Program | KPHO/KTVK

Arizona’s Family is proud to kick off its annual Christmas Angel program on November 16th. For more than 30 years now, the program in partner with Salvation Army has provided the joy of a new toy at Christmas for 50,000 children each year. The community can stop by a Christmas Angel tree at one of 14 valley shopping malls, find a gift and return it to Salvation Army volunteers.  People can donate a new, unwrapped toy at any Phoenix Fire station or to Chandler Fashion Center on Friday, December 8th from 6am-7pm.
