There’s some new legislation with momentum in both the US Senate and US House that could have big implications for local newsrooms across Arizona. The legislation would provide tax credits that total tens of thousands of dollars to local TV and radio stations that hire more local news journalists in their community.

The US Senate legislation has been introduced by three US Senators — including Arizona’s Mark Kelly. Read a summary of the bill and its tax implications here.

The Arizona Broadcasters Association plans to aggressively support these bills on your behalf as Congress evaluates a path forward. We are also working on a 50-state letter of support that all broadcast associations will sign along with the NAB. Efforts like these are why the ABA meets regularly with Arizona’s congressional delegation on your behalf. As recently as May, we were talking to Senator Kelly’s office about the need for local journalism sustainably support.
