New ad category for Arizona broadcasters: Sports betting comes to our state

As we shared with GMs last month, one of the more consequential bills for Arizona broadcasters has been signed into law by Governor Ducey.

HB2772 allows professional and college sports betting at Arizona tribal casinos, at sites owned by pro sports teams, and online. This will open up an entirely new advertising category in the months ahead. Because the bill was passed by a two-thirds majority, it goes into effect almost immediately.  The only thing slowing down implementation is rules from the Arizona Department of Gaming that must be drafted this summer. We’ll watch it close, and be ready for new ad opportunities, especially from online groups like DraftKings and FanDuel.

Should you choose to pursue or accept any of this advertising, the bill’s passage has the potential to be a big category for Arizona broadcasters. The language of the bill has been protected to allow maximum advertising flexibility thanks to some work from our ABA Lobbyist John Moody. Let us know of any questions.
